Dance Music
The music played at Sandanzzz Ballroom dances has been carefully selected with dancers in mind.  The
chart below shows the range of dance tempi expressed in measures per minute recommended by the
National Dance Council of America (
NDCA), the United States Imperial Society for the Teachers of
Dance (
USISTD),  and the International Dancesport Federation (IDSF) alongside the tempi played at
our dances.  Even though we are not necessarily playing for competitors, we don't want to stray too far
from the recommended tempi.  You'll get your Viennese waltzes, tangos, boleros, cha chas, hustles, and
west coast swings a little slow.  You'll get your  foxtrots, waltzes, and merengues a little fast.
That seems
to be the preference of our dancers
.  Each song played has been tempoed to the nearest one-half
measure per minute, so you are never unpleasantly surprised  by a tempo that is out of bounds.  A play
list which includes tempi is available at each dance.  For a very dry and boring description of how to
tempo music,

Many of the songs played have had the tempo adjusted to optimize the danceability.  Software is used
that adjusts the tempo, without altering the pitch.  That means the vocalists do not start sounding like
Donald Duck imitators when the pitch is increased or worse when the pitch is decreased.

Three one-hour CDs are made for each Saturday dance, and two are made for each Thursday dance.
While you may hear a selection repeated, it will usually be at a minimum of a two-week interval.  You
will
NOT hear the same selections week after week.

The chart below also shows how many selections of each dance you will have each Saturday.  (Compare
those numbers to what's  played at your next "live band" dance.)
